Coconut, Ginger + Turmeric Drink

 
 

It serves that warm milk before bed purpose of making you just the right amount of cozy and sleepy, plus it's anti-inflammatory and aides in digestion! I've made versions of this before but this recipe from Eat Local Grown is tops. I adapted it a bit to suit my tastes and I hope you like it.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • pinch black pepper
  • 1/2" pice of ginger sliced
  • pinch cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice blend)
  • raw honey to taste

DIRECTIONS

Add all ingredients to saucepan except honey if using and whisk.

Heat over medium heat until almost to a boil. Reduce and simmer about 3-5 minutes.

Strain ginger. Add honey and stir. 

Spiced Almond Steamer

This is the perfect little treat for the end of a cold day. The combination of almond milk and warming digestive spices balances your blood sugar and stabilizes your metabolism. The extra protein boost from the almond butter helps curb hunger pains. 

 
 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup almond milk, unsweetened
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A pinch of ground ginger
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter

DIRECTIONS

1 Combine all ingredients in a small pan.

2 Heat on the stove over medium heat until warm.*

3 Pour into a mug.

*Pro tip: After heating the ingredients on the stove, pour the mixture into the blender and run it for about 30 seconds (leave a little hole in the lid for the steam to escape). This makes sure everything is mixed super well, and adds a bit of froth to make you feel like you just got served at your favorite coffee shop!
